Leucadendron – Flower shaped folliage

Posted on | February 27, 2010 | No Comments

A friend of mine is a  Protea Farmer.  I always know if he’s dropped by to visit, as there is a bunch of  various Proteas on the door step.    He uses Leucadendron as a background to offset the larger blooms.

Although Leucadendron comes in various colours, I love plants with a touch of blue in the green foliage (see below) in a border.    I’d love to see a bunch of these  in a vase with a spray of Gypsofila (Babys breath) through it.

Wax Flower – Heavenly Hoya

Posted on | January 29, 2010 | 1 Comment

The Hoya is one of those special and unusual plants that reeks ye olde worlde charm. I can only wonder at the  impact it’s discovery had on the first plant hunter who set eyes upon it’s delicate waxy flowers.

Even the unopened buds on the left are fascinating!  There’s a segment all about hoyas on episode 19 of Dig It Down Under.
