Yucca – Architectural dry land wonder

While walking recently, I came upon this glorious flower head of the Yucca plant. With Melbourne becoming more drought conscious, this plant is springing up everywhere to the point where I think future gardens can be dated back to this time if there is a patch of Yuccas planted in a hot corner.

One of the horticultural delights of the recent Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show was this box of green trick dianthus. These fluffy green carnations are beautiful in their own right as well as being a foil in a bouquet.
There is a full review of all the delights of the MIFGS & more information on episode 21 of Dig It Down Under.

Leucadendron – Flower shaped folliage
Posted on | February 27, 2010 | 1 Comment
A friend of mine is a Protea Farmer. I always know if he’s dropped by to visit, as there is a bunch of various Proteas on the door step. He uses Leucadendron as a background to offset the larger blooms.
Although Leucadendron comes in various colours, I love plants with a touch of blue in the green foliage (see below) in a border. I’d love to see a bunch of these in a vase with a spray of Gypsofila (Babys breath) through it.
